From the Ground up is a five-part workshop series on how to garden and grow plants sustainably. The methods and practices in the workshops are designed to restore and nurture the environment and to assist you in growing your garden harmoniously with nature. Each workshop is independent of the others and you do not need to attend them all. Kitchen and garden waste is a large portion of what many households throw into the garbage bin. In this workshop we will teach you how to take these simple, free materials and turn them into beautiful “black gold”. While we all know how important earthworms are in the soil, ‘compost’ worms can provide extra help by providing castings and worm ‘tea’. Worm farming solves many of our everyday recycling issues, and also provides us with valuable nutrients for the soil. You will leave this workshop with all the knowledge you need to successfully manage your own worm farm and compost pile. Please wear a hat and enclosed shoes; and bring a snack and keep cup or water bottle. Meet at the Kitchen in the Garden. This workshop supports the Botanic Gardens' commitment to creating a plant loving community, dedicated to putting the plant back into Planet. Please note: This workshop is only available to participants 16 years of age or over.
