After nearly two years of planning, hundreds of players from around the world have now descended upon Brisbane to contest the 2026 IWFF Walking Football World Championship at Brisbane Strikers FC this week – see attached flyer. Teams from England, France, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Lithuania, Singapore, Hong Kong, and New Zealand just to name a few, are here to take on the Aussie Walkaroos and to celebrate the first time this prestigious international event has been held in the southern hemisphere.
The 2026 IWFF Walking Football World Championship includes male and female divisions played in 10 age groups ranging from 45s to 75s.
For the uninitiated, walking football – which is currently the world’s fastest growing social and competitive team sport – is a small-field, 6-v-6 version of the beautiful game in which, as the name suggests, running is not permitted. Accordingly, it becomes a tactical game relying on clever footwork and accurate passing.
Walking Football Australia invites everyone in South East Queensland, and beyond, to come and support the Walkaroos and international teams as they play for world championship glory during the 2026 IWFF Walking Football World Championship at Brisbane Strikers FC. Entry is free and there’ll be plenty of food and drink available throughout the 4-days of the event.
