20 images. 20 seconds each. Stories worth sharing.
Join Heritage Hands Festival: Sandgate for PechaKucha: Made to Last, a free evening of fast-paced storytelling, creativity and inspiration celebrating the people, skills and traditions behind things made by hand.
PechaKucha is a unique presentation format where each speaker shares 20 images, with just 20 seconds per image. The result is a lively, visual presentation lasting 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
Meet eight fascinating makers, artists and heritage practitioners:
- Michael Blazek
– Neon artist and master glass bender
- Marianne Taylor – The House Detective, uncovering the hidden histories of buildings
- Natalia Elkina – Stained glass and traditional leadlighting
- Wendy Downes – The Cheeseboard / Slow Food Brisbane, exploring the craft of cheese maturation
- Suzie Rodgers – Specialist ballet and performance costume embellishment
- Dr Renata Buziak – Experimental photography, cyanotype and biochrome
- Brett Richardson – Penny-farthing maker and educator
- Bill Webb – Traditional leather plaiting
Through personal stories, creative journeys and insights into their craft, speakers explore the skills, materials and specialist knowledge that shape their work, and what it means to create something that lasts.
From traditional trades to contemporary creative practice, Made to Last celebrates the ingenuity, dedication and knowledge behind handmade things.
