The Shadow Behind and Ahead of Me is an introductory experience that invites the audience to explore the complexities surrounding developing a video game about grieving the loss of a parent to suicide. This limited-run experience will premiere on 24 May 2026, with two sessions at 11am and 1pm.

Presented by artist and game developer Myfanwy (Miffy) King, this experience takes participants on a journey through early game development, reflecting on the creative process and challenges of exploring the often-overlooked aspect of grief following suicide. Participants are invited to have a conversation on how media portrays these topics and how they can engage with it within their own creative practice.

The Shadow Behind and Ahead of Me will appeal to those interested in games about complex emotional stories or developers interested in developing stories with challenging themes. This experience serves as catalyst for discussions around grief, suicide, family and loss and how these experiences can be conveyed through video games and storytelling.

Note: Content warning for topics discussing suicide, loss, mental illness and substance use disorder.

Venue: The Exchange, 81 Musk Ave, Kelvin Grove Qld 4059.
