About recently made VPOs
Under the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 (NALL), Council has the authority to protect important vegetation across Brisbane.
NALL provides an opportunity for affected residents and the broader community to have their say on a recently made Vegetation Protection Order (VPO).
Once a VPO has been made by Council, anyone other than the person who made the nomination can make a submission to support or oppose it.
Have your say on a recently made VPO
Follow our step-by-step process to have your say about a VPO.
We list all recently made VPOs on our website during the submission period to give the community the chance to make a submission. We also write to anyone whose property is affected by a VPO.
The submission period is open for a minimum of 14 days after the making of a VPO.
Your submission must include:
- your name, address and signature
- why you support or oppose the protection of this vegetation.
Your reasons for supporting or opposing the VPO must relate to one or more of the objects under which it was made. For example, why you believe the vegetation is or is not significant and reasons that the vegetation should or should not be protected.
You can have your say on a VPO currently open for consultation using the online form.
We’ll let you know the outcome of the VPO once the submission period has closed and all properly made submissions have been considered.
Council may, upon consideration of any properly made submission and without further consultation, confirm or revoke a VPO as set out in Section 15 of the Local Law.
