Local law register

Under the City of Brisbane Act 2010, Council keeps a Register of Local Laws and Subordinate Local Laws, rules and guidelines.

Council also publishes notices about new local laws or changes to existing local laws, and laws open for community consultation.

Public Notice of proposed Short Stay Accommodation Local Law 2025 for the City of Brisbane

City of Brisbane Act 2010 - Section 29

Brisbane City Council (Council) has by resolution proposed to make a local law entitled Short Stay Accommodation Local Law 2025 (the proposed local law).

The purpose of the proposed local law is to regulate short stay accommodation through a permitting system and address amenity impacts arising from the operation of the activity.

The proposed local law aims to:

(a) introduce a framework for regulating short stay accommodation in the local government area; and

(b) safeguard the amenity of residents in the vicinity of short stay accommodation.

Under the regulatory framework, Council has also made the Short Stay Accommodation Rule (the Rule) to support the administration of the proposed local law.

Council is now consulting with the public about the proposed local law and the Rule. The consultation period about the proposed local law and the Rule is 42 business days. The first day of the consultation period is Friday 12 December 2025. The last day of the consultation period is Monday 16 February 2026.

Any person may, on or before Monday 16 February 2026:

(a) download a copy of the proposed local law and the Rule from the links below; and/or

(b) inspect and/or obtain free of charge a copy of the proposed local law and the Rule at the City Customer Service Centre, Level 1, Brisbane Square, 266 George Street, Brisbane; and

(c) make a written submission about the proposed local law and the Rule stating the aspects of the proposed local law and/or the document to which the submission relates and the grounds, facts and circumstances relied on in the submission.

Submissions must:

  1. be received by Council on or before Monday 16 February 2026.

  2. be addressed by mail to:

    or lodged via email to shortstay@brisbane.qld.gov.au

    or lodged online via the Have Your Say on the Proposed Short Stay Accommodation Local Law 2025 and the Short Stay Accommodation Rule form.

  3. state the full name and address of the submitter.

  4. nominate a principal submitter if a submission is made by more than one submitter.

Council will consider all properly made submissions.

The personal information provided in submissions will be used by Brisbane City Council for the purpose of recording and responding to submissions on the documents. Personal information will not be disclosed to any third party without the consent of the submitter unless required or permitted by law.
