Local law register

Under the City of Brisbane Act 2010, Council keeps a Register of Local Laws and Subordinate Local Laws, rules and guidelines.

Council also publishes notices about new local laws or changes to existing local laws, and laws open for community consultation.

Public Notice of Meetings Amending Local Law 2026 for the City of Brisbane

City of Brisbane Act 2010 - Section 32

Brisbane City Council (Council) has by resolution on 15 September 2026 made a local law entitled Meetings Amending Local Law 2026 (the local law).

The local law amends the Meetings Local Law 2001.

The local law:

(a) incorporates revised Model Meeting Procedures issued by the Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers in July 2026;

(b) incorporates amendments made by the Local Government (Empowering Councils) and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2026 to the City of Brisbane Act 2010, Local Government Act 2009 and associated regulations;

(c) clarifies procedural motions that may be moved and ringing of the divisional bells;

(d) sets the number of questions on notice permitted each Council meeting;

(e) provides for the acceptance of minutes of previous Council meetings;

(f) includes additional provisions for managing lapses of quorum;

(g) clarifies that any councillor may submit a notice of motion; and

(h) clarifies the process for asking councillors a question.

The local law commences on 18 September 2026.
