Light up a Council asset

Brisbane City Council has several assets that can be lit up to promote major festivals and events, community awareness campaigns or cultural festivals, including:

  1. Story Bridge and Victoria Bridge
  2. Brisbane City Hall and King George Square
  3. Reddacliff Place sculptures: Donna Marcus Steam 2006

Light up fees

No charges apply for an approved Light Up application where eligibility requirements and criteria have been met. Exceptions may apply.

Light up application process

The application process varies depending on the Council asset. Please see links below for relevant conditions, eligibility and criteria for each asset.

Applications can be made up to twelve months in advance. Applications are processed in the order they are received and are assessed against the eligibility requirements and criteria

The Lighting of Council assets are reserved for significant local, state or national events or awareness campaigns that:

  • have a Brisbane-wide audience; or
  • benefit all Brisbane residents; or
  • attract 10,000 participants; or
  • are a national event represented in multiple states.

All light up applications must meet eligible criteria. Read the full list of Council's conditions and eligibility criteria.

Story Bridge and Victoria Bridge

There are several options regarding colours and sequencing of lights, all of which are detailed on our Light Up Brisbane application form.

Complimentary assets are also available for lighting, to eligible applicants.

Wickham Terrace Car Park architectural wall (complimentary asset available with eligible Story Bridge bookings)

  • The inclusion of this wall is included with approved bookings of the Story Bridge only and cannot be selected as a stand-alone asset. 
  • The colour will be selected by Brisbane City Council and compliment the colours of the Story Bridge.

Breakfast Creek Bridge (complimentary asset available with Story Bridge bookings)

  • The inclusion of this bridge is included with approved bookings of the Story Bridge only and cannot be selected as a stand-alone asset.
  • The colour will be selected by Brisbane City Council and compliment the colours of the Story Bridge.

Tropical Dome, Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-Tha (complimentary asset available with Story or Victoria Bridge bookings)

  • Light ups will be at the curator’s discretion, which may include restricted light up hours.
  • The colour will be selected by Brisbane City Council and compliment the colours of other light up assets.

Brisbane City Hall and King George Square
