About grass cutting in Brisbane parks

Council maintains more than 70,000 hectares of grass in Brisbane, including grass cutting in parks across the city.

Council programs its grass-cutting schedule to align with the seasons. Generally, we mow parks monthly in winter and fortnightly in summer, when grass grows faster. We mow popular parks weekly in the peak of summer.

Significant rainfall or periods of extended dry weather can disrupt scheduling. When this happens, we reschedule services when it is safe and practical.

tip

Important things to know

  • We may not be able to mow grass because of current or recent weather conditions. The ground may need to dry further before someone can cut it. If the mowing teams start too early, they can damage the turf and substructure.
  • Not all parks are serviced by Council. Sporting clubs sometimes carry out mowing in parks across the city.

From 10 November to 11 December 2025, Council is trialling the use of robot lawnmowers at:

The aim of this trial is to allow us to mow more frequently, reduce emissions and improve the safety of our mowing team.

Report overgrown grass or weeds

Rainfall and damp ground can cause grass to become overgrown.

If you notice overgrown grass or weeds in a Council park, report it to us online.
