Ashgrove West creative placemaking outcomes

As part of the Ashgrove West Village Precinct Project, artist Cezary Stulgis was commissioned to develop a creative response to this unique neighbourhood centre, further adding to the sense and story of place.

The resulting artwork, ‘Crows Ash Pods’, consists of four sculptures that are an artisticinterpretation of the crows ash tree’s woody seed capsules at various stages of opening. The crows ash tree (Flindersia australis) is characteristic of the local area and has been found growing throughout the suburb of Ashgrove. The name of the suburb is derivedfrom this tree.

The sculptures now sit within the garden beds of Ashgrove West’s neighbourhood centre, providing an ongoing connection to the naming of this place and the natural environment.
