Sunnybank creative placemaking outcomes

The community was invited to share their ideas for the public space improvements for the project during September 2019. The feedback helped inform the rationale for improvements to the centre and overall design theme of ‘oasis’. The intent of the creative outcomes is to promote a sense of connection throughout the precinct with the local community, improve the centre's identity and celebrate local neighbourhood character.

The creative outcomes for the site were further informed by artist-facilitated community workshops held with the Sunnybank State High School in early 2020. This was an opportunity for an exchange of ideas and skills with the local school community.

Journey to Oasis (2020), Sebastian Moody

Sebastian Moody’s Journey to Oasis (2020) is a series of works, using brass inlay text and gobo lighting projection.

Referencing Sunnybank's destination history, as a fertile area, the Oasis Tourist Gardens and a vibrant multicultural suburb, Sebastian Moody's work reinforces the suburb's distinctive local character and shared aspects of human experience.

This artwork responds to the theme of ‘journey to an oasis’ by using astrological maps of the northern and southern hemisphere.
