Summer Reading book voucher competition terms and conditions

Read the terms and conditions applying to the Summer Reading book voucher competition.

  1. These terms and conditions set out all of the information regarding the 2023-24 Summer Reading book voucher competition (the Terms and Conditions).
     
  2. The Promoter of this competition is Brisbane City Council ABN 72 002 765 795 acting through its Library Services branch whose principal offices are at Brisbane Square, 266 George Street, Brisbane (the Promoter).
     
  3. Information on how to enter this competition forms part of these Terms and Conditions.
     
  4. Competition entry is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
     
  5. Prizes: There are 35 prizes available, each consisting of one (1) $50 Dymocks book voucher (each a Prize).

    The Prize is not exchangeable or transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash. If the full amount of the Prize is not redeemed, the unused balance will be forfeited. Any additional expenses incurred by the Prize winner, other than those outlined in these Terms and Conditions, are the responsibility of the Prize winner. Prizes are themselves subject to the specific terms and conditions of the Prize provider.
     
  6. The competition period: This competition will open at 9:00am AEST Saturday 9 December 2023 and close at 4:00pm AEST Sunday 21 January 2024.

    Entries will only be accepted during this time.
     
  7. How to enter:
     

    To enter the competition, entrants must:

    (a) register for the Summer Reading Challenge, either online at www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/libraries or in person at one of one of the 33 Brisbane City Council library branches/locations (Branch Library) or the Brisbane City Council Mobile Library (Mobile Library) or the Brisbane City Council Pop-up Library (Pop-up Library) (each a Participating Library).

    (b) collect a Summer Reading challenge card at one of the Participating Libraries;

    (c) complete each of the six Summer Reading challenges and collect a stamp for each challenge on their Summer Reading challenge card at a Participating Library;

    (d) complete the Summer Reading challenge card including a phone number and email address;

    (e) submit the completed Summer Reading challenge card at a Participating Library.

    Only one entry per entrant, will be accepted.  Any subsequent entries (even if at separate Participating Libraries) from the same entrant will be deemed invalid.

    In the event that the entrant is under the age of 18 and does not have a phone number and/or email address, a parent or guardian may provide their phone number and/or email address.

  8. Eligibility: To be eligible to enter this competition, a person must:

    (a) not be an employee or contracted staff of the Promoter; and
    (b) have a current Brisbane City Council Library Membership; or
    (c) be a resident of the City of Brisbane and be able to provide proof of this if required.
     
  9. Competition Draws: The Prize winners will be drawn by an officer of the Promoter by randomly selecting one eligible Summer Reading challenge card from the entrants at each of the Branch Libraries, the Mobile Library and the Pop-up Library. The drawing of the Prizes will take place between Monday 22 January 2024, and Tuesday 30 January 2024.
     
  10.  Winner Notification: The Prize winners will be notified by email or phone call, by an officer of the Promoter by 5:00pm AEST on Tuesday 30 January 2024.
     
  11.  Prize claim: To claim the Prize, the winner must:

    (a) for a Branch Library - visit, in person, the Participating Library where they entered the draw. The Prize must be claimed by 5:00pm AEST on Friday 9 February 2024 (the Branch LibraryPrize Claim Date) to redeem the prize.

    (b) for the Mobile Library or Pop-up Library, the Prize can be collected from any of the respective scheduled locations. The Prize must be claimed by 5:00pm AEST on Friday 1 March 2024 (the Mobile and Pop-up Library Prize Claim Date) to redeem the prize.

  12. Re-Draw: If a winner does not claim the Prize by the respective Branch Library Prize Claim Date or the Mobile and Pop-up Library Prize Claim Date, that winner (as originally drawn) will cease to be the winner and will not be entitled to claim the Prize.

    The Promoter will be entitled to draw a new winner and provide a period of time for that new winner to claim the Prize. If that new winner fails to claim the Prize in the applicable period of time, that new winner will cease to be the winner and will not be entitled to claim the Prize. This redraw process may continue to apply on any number of occasions (at the discretion of the Promoter), until such time as the Prize is claimed by a winner within the applicable period, or the Promoter decides, in its absolute discretion, not to re-draw the Prize.

    The Promoter, in its absolute discretion, reserves the right to not award the Prize to any entrant, including without limitation, if the Prize is not claimed by the Prize Claim Date or any subsequent period provided for a new winner to claim the Prize, or the Promoter decides, in its absolute discretion, not to re-draw the Prize.
     
  13. No Liability of Promoter: The Promoter accepts no responsibility whatsoever for late, misplaced, lost or ineligible entries. The Promoter makes no representations or warranties as to the quality, suitability or merchantability of the Prize. To the extent permitted by law, the Promoter is not liable for any:

    (a) loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but not limited to direct or consequential loss which includes but is not limited to loss of actual or anticipated profit, loss of goodwill, loss of reputation, loss of opportunity, loss of savings and/or loss of contract); or

    (b) without limiting paragraph (a), personal injury sustained in connection with the entry into the competition or acceptance of the Prize,

    howsoever such liability arises and whether arising in tort (including without limitation in negligence), for breach of contract (including without limitation under any indemnity), under statute, in equity or otherwise.
     
  14.  To the extent all or any part of condition 13 is found to be contrary to the Australian Consumer Law, but the Australian Consumer Law otherwise permits the Promoter to limit the Promoter’s liability to the value of the Prize or the resupply of the Prize, then the liability of the Promoter is instead limited, at the Promoter’s election, to either the value of the Prize or the resupply of the Prize.
     
  15.  Important – Privacy Consent: By entering this competition, the entrant acknowledges and consents to their personal information, including their name, email and phone number being collected and stored on the Promoter’s database for the purpose of this competition.
     
  16.  Force Majeure: If for any reason this competition is not capable of running as planned (including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of the Promoter), which corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this competition, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to take any action that may be available, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition. The Promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify all entries from any individual who tampers with, or benefits from tampering with, the entry process which as a result corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the competition.
     
  17.  In the case of the intervention of any outside agent or event which naturally changes the result or prevents or hinders its determination, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, or strikes, the Promoter may in its absolute discretion cancel the competition and recommence it from the start on the same conditions.
     
  18.  The Promoter does not claim responsibility for any changes to the competition including change in location, rescheduling or cancellation.
     
  19.  The Promoter reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time and to cancel or amend the competition at any time without notice or further recourse to the entrants.
