About Brisbane library events
Council libraries host a variety of free events for all ages.
Our library programs give you the opportunity to learn, socialise and play in the comfort of the local community.
Choose from workshops and events for adults including author events, technology classes, English conversation sessions, writing workshops and more.
Literacy and craft activities for children are designed to support their learning and development. They’re also a relaxed and convenient way to meet other local families.
Children’s programs
Join in the fun of our library programs and support your child's love of reading, language and literacy development.
First 5 Forever
First 5 Forever is an initiative of the Queensland Government, coordinated by State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with Council.
Come along to play games, sing nursery rhymes and listen to storytime together. Our staff are always happy to share early literacy resources and support.
The program offers free sessions for children and their parents and carers.
Learn songs and action rhymes to nurture your baby’s pre-literacy, communication and social skills. Ideal for babies aged 0-1 years.
Join in singing, clapping and dancing along to action rhymes. This will help develop your child's pre-literacy, communication and social skills. Ideal for toddlers aged 1-2 years.
Get involved in interactive stories, songs and mark making activities. Ideal for children aged 3-5 years.
You can also attend storytime sessions in the park with the Pop-up Library. Ideal for children aged 0-5 years.
2025 Gold Star and Little Stars Reading Club programs
Children from all over Brisbane are invited to take part in reading programs at Council libraries from Saturday 28 June to Friday 29 August 2025.
The Gold Star program is suitable for children aged 6-12 years and the Little Stars program is suitable for children up to 5 years of age.
The programs are a wonderful way to connect and bond with your child, while developing their early literacy skills and love of books and libraries.
Looking for 4 good reasons to get involved with the 2025 Gold Star and Little Stars Reading Club?
- Membership is free.
- Council's reading club programs can help children improve their reading and literacy skills.
- Children are rewarded for reading with an award ceremony at the end of the program.
- It's fun! Children will have fun sharing their reading experiences with family and friends.
The programs run for 2 months.
Register your child for the the Gold Star Reading Club or Little Stars Reading Club:
- at your local library
- online.
Before children can register, they must also be members of the library.
Reading club members will receive a reading map including program information and a reading prorgress chart.
By reading for a minimum of 10 minutes per day and completing the reading tracker book stacks, children will receive a medallion and a certificate of achievement at an awards ceremony at the end of the program.

Attend a free computer training session
Libraries offer free technology and computer training sessions for adults.
The Tech Connect program is delivered by library staff. The small, friendly groups allow you to learn at your own pace.
Attend a session for hands-on training on how to use:
- desktop computers
- devices, including tablets and smartphones
- the internet
- email
- social media.
Book clubs meet in homes, cafes, restaurants and bookstores across Brisbane.
Council libraries also host book clubs throughout the year.
Starting your own book club allows you to choose your favourite themes and genres.
All you need to do is decide on your meeting location and times, members and books.
Before you begin, you might want to ask yourself some key questions.
- Am I looking for serious literary debate or light-hearted discussion?
- Where will I look for members? Will I invite friends, or will I contact libraries and bookstores?
- What’s the ideal size for my book club? A smaller group may lead to more intimate discussions. Larger groups bring diverse perspectives.
