About the project

Brisbane City Council is creating more to see and do by delivering a new off-road cycling skills track to D.M. Henderson Park, Macgregor.

D.M. Henderson Park is located at 434 McCullough Street, McGregor and is home to a variety of facilities, including a playground, dog off-leash area, and a BMX bike track. The Bulimba Bikeway also runs through the park. The park is also the site of a number of sporting facilities, including rugby fields and netball courts, and is home to the Sunnybank Rugby Club and MacGregor Netball Association.

An opportunity to enhance the current recreational facilities by installing an off-road cycling skills track was identified in the Brisbane Off-Road Cycling Strategy. The strategy was released to the public in late 2021.

Project details

The D.M. Henderson Park off-road cycling track will be located near the existing BMX pump track to complement this facility and will use natural elements like sandstone blocks and hardwood to create an off-road experience.

The facility will include:

  • three individual tracks for a variety of skill levels
  • various range of obstacles including sandstone blocks, hardwood beams and boulders to create an off-road experience.

Works are anticipated to begin in late May 2022 and be complete by mid-2022, weather and site conditions permitting.

Construction Impacts

Construction will take place between 6.30am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, with some Saturday works as required. Workers will access the site via Granadilla Street and a laydown area will be established within the park for the storage of construction equipment. Site fencing will be established to outline and enclose the construction site.

Works will generally involve earthworks, landscaping and installing new track elements including sandstone and wooden beams. Site fencing will be established to outline and enclose the construction site.

There may be some temporary access changes to the pathways around the park, signs will be in place to guide pedestrians and park users. Council expects no impacts to the Bulimba Creek Bikeway for the duration of the project, if impacts occur during construction signs will be in place to guide bikeway users.

The playground, existing BMX track and the basketball half-court will remain open during construction.

The car park closest to the playground, off Granadilla Road, may be used by contractors from time to time during construction. We expect no impacts to the car parks closest to the sports fields throughout the project.

Park users may experience some construction noise, minor dust, minor vibration and increased vehicle movement during works.
