Gasometer Park activation - Newstead
Gasometer Park, Newstead is owned and managed by Brisbane City Council and a framework is being developed to guide activation in this public space. The activation framework will help Council provide more opportunities for residents to enjoy Brisbane's beautiful subtropical climate and connect with family and friends in open spaces that make our city great.

About the project
By gathering feedback to inform the activation of Gasometer Park in Newstead, Council is giving residents more to see and do in a clean and green Brisbane.
Newstead Gasworks is a heritage-listed former gasometer that was built by Brisbane Municipal Council from 1873-87. The gasworks was operational until the 1990s when it was closed and left vacant.
Gasometer Park is defined as a District Recreation - Urban Common area with a Special High Profile classification. This means it will be maintained to a high standard and the public open space will provide a variety of functions from quiet respite to carefully planned events and activities. Council plans to continue activating the park with temporary activations (such as markets, movies, and light shows) for the benefit of the community, whilst also ensuring the preservation of heritage values and appropriate asset management.
Consultation for Gasometer Park community activation is now closed.
Following consultation with the local community, Council will develop an activation framework in late 2021.
