Vehicle access to a park

Use this page to find information about vehicle access to parks, including access for park bookings or park use consents and construction work.

Vehicle access for park bookings and park use consents

Vehicle access is not generally available in Brisbane City Council parks, but may be negotiated at Council's discretion for vehicles delivering equipment related to a park booking or park use consent.

If you need access to a park to deliver equipment for an activity or event, you must request this as part of your park booking/consent application.

If approved, you will need to pay a $110 security bond to collect a gate key. A security bond may apply for any vehicle requiring access into parkland. If your vehicle causes damage to the parkland, Council may keep part or all of the security bond to fix the damage.

Wedding vehicles are not permitted to be driven into Council parkland, unless there is an existing road within the park (see specific requirements for Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha).

Vehicle access for construction work

For vehicle access to Council parkland to conduct works within the park or to access private property through Council parkland you must complete the temporary access through Council parkland for private works online form. To complete your application online, you will need to upload a copy of:

  • each vehicle's valid third party motor vehicle insurance
  • certificate of currency for public liability insurance for $20 Million
  • any plans for work within the park

Your request will be acknowledged within two working days of Council receiving your application. The application may take up to 10 working days to be processed.

In some cases, a security bond may be required depending on the type of work being carried out. If approved, you will also need to leave a $110 security bond to collect a gate key.

Vehicle access for Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha

The gardens are open to vehicular traffic on weekdays only (except public holidays) from 8am to 4pm. Vehicles may not be driven through the gardens on weekends or public holidays due to pedestrian safety concerns.

Vehicle access to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha is sometimes restricted due to maintenance work.

If driving through the gardens is important to your visit, phone ahead during business hours on 07 3403 2535 to check gates are open to vehicles.
