2019 winners

The 2019 Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards invited budding Brisbane photographers to get snap happy and submit their favourite photo to celebrate Brisbane’s lifestyle, people and places.

The winners of the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards 2019 were:

Open category winner

William Fryer

Simultaneous moonrise and sunset over the Brisbane river. Demonstrating Brisbane's wonderful environment, the beautiful Brisbane river, excellent ferries, and nice weather.

Open category first runner up

Lachlan Douglas

Crowd surfing at Brisbane most iconic venue. Demonstrating the city's vibrant nightlife represented here at the iconic Tivoli. Live music experiences such as this and events like BIGSOUND and Brisbane Festival have contributed to Brisbane's international reputation. At a time where venues are closing in other major capital cities Brisbane grows bigger and brighter.

Chi Wai Lui

A snapshot taken at South Bank. I was attracted to the colour and direction of light.

You'd have never guessed that this is in the middle of suburbia. Mount Gravatt is the best view of the city on the Southside.

The Story Bridge right before dawn breaks, lights still on with no one in sight. The day is about to begin. This image shows the beauty of the city at night. It also acknowledges the level of safety I feel as an individual living in the city.

People’s Choice Award winner

Rita Lam

If you are looking at this image from a distance, it looks like thousands of stars in the sky.  However, the truth is - it’s a water reflection. The stars are the grain particles of the road and the Milky Way effect is the sunlight. Sometimes the most ordinary thing in Brisbane can be made extraordinary, so let's get out and explore more of the Brisbane.
