Cycling Brisbane

A family cycling through a park

Brisbane City Council’s Cycling Brisbane program provides free workshops, events and resources to encourage people of all ages and abilities to ride more as part of an active and healthy lifestyle.

Brisbane is already a great place for riding and is improving with Council’s continued investment in active transport infrastructure.

It's all part of our plan to make active transport in Brisbane easier, safer and more accessible for everyone.

Benefits of riding

Riding a bike is great way to get around Brisbane but also provides a range of benefits to you and the whole community.

Research has found that riding a bike regularly is one of the best ways to reduce your risk of health problems and can help protect you from serious diseases such as obesity, heart disease, cancer, mental illness, diabetes and arthritis.  It is also fun, cheap and great for the environment.

Community support

As part of Council's commitment to making riding more accessible, we support community organisations that encourage people to ride.

TRACTION is a community-based charity that aims to spark young people's potential by delivering hands-on learning and mentoring programs that help empower at-risk young people to develop the practical and personal skills they need to thrive.

The program allows participants to build self-esteem and find a sense of belonging, discover their potential through practical skill development, like bike building.

Since starting the program in 2015, TRACTION has helped more than 2,000 young people.
