Bus Stop Upgrades Program

The Bus Stop Upgrades Program (BSUP) involves upgrading Brisbane's bus stops to ensure the public transport network is safe, accessible to people of all abilities and meets current legislative standards. The BSUP aims to ensure all bus stops meet safety and accessibility requirements, and contributes to achieving Brisbane City Council's Brisbane Vision 2031 in providing a safe, accessible and well-connected city for everyone.

About the project

Over the past eight years Council has made a significant investment in upgrading our bus stop network to ensure it is safe, meets current legislative standards and is accessible to people of all abilities.

These bus stop upgrades are part of a rolling program across Brisbane and which is part of Council’s commitment to create a well-connected and accessible public transport network for Brisbane. Approximately 81% of our network has been upgraded as of June 2022, with planning underway to upgrade the remaining eligible bus stops.

The improvements may involve, but are not limited to, upgrades to boarding points, access paths, waiting areas, signs, tactile ground surface indicators and bus stop seats and shelters. The works are prioritised based on location, access to community and disability services, patronage and Council priorities.

Council will install signage to identify a temporary bus stop location while construction works are underway. Signage will also be installed at each bus stop at least two weeks prior to the stop being upgraded as part of this program.

Impacts during construction

Construction will take place between the hours of 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday, however some out of hours works may be required. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community.
