We’re looking at opportunities to make moving around the Annerley Road corridor easier and safer for all users. This includes investigating potential future active travel improvement options. The investigation area is between Peter Doherty Street, Dutton Park and Ipswich Road, Annerley.

This work is part of a grant-funded process. It will investigate concept options to improve active transport connections for residents, visitors, and commuters.

The Annerley Road Active Travel investigation project is proudly supported by the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grant program.

This is an early phase of the project. Further stages will depend on future funding allocations.

In late 2025, we asked the community to share their experiences travelling along Annerley Road and to tell us where you’d like to see improvements between Peter Doherty Street and Ipswich Road.

What we heard

People who completed the survey told us they’re strongly connected to the area, with 68% living in or close to Annerley Road. They get around in different ways, with 43% riding a bike or using an e‑mobility device, 35% driving, and 13% walking or running.

Many people shared that Annerley Road can feel stressful or unsafe to use, especially when crossing the road or moving through busy intersections. There was strong support for improvements like separated facilities for walking and riding, safer crossings, and smoother footpaths.

Most said these changes would help them feel safer and encourage them to choose walking or riding more often in the future.

We’re continuing to review feedback alongside technical investigations into safety, traffic and intersection operations, bus movements and the physical constraints of the corridor.

Annerley Road is a busy and complex corridor, with many different people and services relying on it. Our work is focused on exploring what active travel improvements might be feasible given key challenges including:

  • limited space in some narrow sections, with little room to add new facilities
  • high levels of activity from people walking, riding, driving and catching buses
  • several complex intersections and slip lanes with many movements happening at once
  • steep or tight sections that make changes more challenging.

This work is helping us explore potential opportunities and how different needs can be considered within the available road space.

As part of this grant funded investigation, early concept options for potential improvements will be developed. Work is ongoing to refine these options as investigations continue, ensuring they are informed by both technical analysis and community feedback.
