Ferry terminal program - Bulimba Peninsula

Link copied

We’re starting a program of planned maintenance and upgrade works at Bulimba, Apollo Road and Hawthorne ferry terminals.

Brisbane’s ferry network is a valued part of our city’s transport infrastructure, providing a relaxed and convenient way to travel.

We’re planning coordinated works at three ferry terminals on the busy Bulimba peninsula. Works will start at Bulimba ferry terminal.

More than 1,100 passengers board at Bulimba ferry terminal each day. This makes it one of the busiest suburban ferry terminals in our network.

After the major 2014 upgrade, the gangway now needs essential maintenance and renewal works. These works will support its long-term performance and reliable operation.

Bulimba ferry terminal

Works will include:

  • replacing key components that connect the gangway to the shore and pontoon
  • replacing other components that help support and stabilise the gangway.

Apollo Road ferry terminal

Works will include:

  • upgrading seating and signage
  • providing additional shelter
  • improving lighting and safety features.

Hawthorne ferry terminal

We are starting investigations to inform the scope for future works to restore the heritage-listed building.

We are taking a network-wide approach to ferry terminal maintenance, coordinating works to minimise customer impacts and maintain service continuity.

  • Late September 2026: Site preparation works start at Apollo Road ferry terminal.
  • 9 November 2026: Works start at Bulimba ferry terminal.
  • End-November 2026: Works start at Apollo Road ferry terminal.
  • Mid-December 2026: Works complete at Bulimba ferry terminal.
  • Early 2027: Works complete at Apollo Road ferry terminal.
  • Ongoing: Investigations at Hawthorne ferry terminal heritage-listed building.

Bulimba ferry terminal will close from 9 November to mid-December 2026. The full closure will allow us to complete the works safely.

Additional bus and ferry services will be in place during this time to minimise disruption.

Apollo Road and Hawthorne ferry terminals will remain open for the duration of the maintenance program.
