The Hamilton Road and Spence Road intersection is busy at all times of the day. Heavy traffic, long wait times, and limited visibility make it hard for drivers to judge safe gaps in traffic or enter and exit Spence Road safely. We’re installing traffic lights to make the intersection easier, safer and more reliable to use.
The project’s features include:
- installing traffic signals at the intersection with signalised pedestrian crossing facilities
- extending the right-turn lane on Hamilton Road into Spence Road
- widening both corners of Spence Road at Hamilton Road to formalise 2 westbound traffic lanes on Hamilton Road on approach to and through the intersection
- modifying Frankit Street access to be left-in, left-out only at Hamilton Road
- installing a new pedestrian refuge on Frankit Street at Hamilton Road
- relocating westbound bus stop 43 on Hamilton Road 30m west, and northbound bus stop 42 on Spence Road 30m south
- upgrading footpaths and installing new kerb ramps
- upgrading the stormwater infrastructure on Hamilton Road and Spence Road, within the project area
- installing new road pavement, signage, line marking and landscaping.
We’re working to finalise our construction program and later this year, we’ll share more information about when works will start. You can register online to receive our project update emails.
