McLennan Street Suburban Corridor Project – Albion, Lutwyche, Wooloowin
We're completing important safety, accessibility and amenity upgrades along McLennan Street.
We're completing the final stage of improvements as part of our Suburban Corridor Modernisation program. This program aims to improve safety along Brisbane's road corridors and intersecting streets.
We've already completed the following works on McLennan Street:
- speed limit reduction from 60 km/h to 50 km/h
- road resurfacing
- footpath repairs and maintenance
- implemented signage changes to encourage long vehicles to travel via Lutwyche Road instead of McLennan Street where possible.
Works in the final stage include:
- installation pedestrian refuge splitter islands on Bale Street, Wakefield Street and Grove Street
- upgrading kerb ramps at the new refuge islands on Wakefield Street and Grove Street and at the existing refuge island on Marne Road
- relocating the existing pedestrian refuge on McLennan Street to Conon Street and Marne Road
- installing a new streetlight on McLennan Street at the relocated pedestrian refuge
- relocating Bus Stop 17 Marne Road further south on McLennan Street
- installing 8 landscaped traffic islands
- minor turfing improvements
- new line marking, including yellow 'no stopping' lines.
Works to improve safety, accessibility and amenity along McLennan Street will take place from mid-May to early July 2025, weather and site conditions permitting.
Initial works will take place during the day between 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Night works will commence from early June, between 7pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday.
Some works are required to be undertaken at night when traffic volumes are lowest, to ensure the safety of workers and road users and to minimise disruption to the road network.
If you live in or are travelling through the area, you may notice:
- increased noise, dust, vibration and vehicles
- changed traffic conditions, including footpath and lane closures, and reduced speed limits
- traffic controllers and signage onsite.
On-street parking within the work areas will not be available while construction is underway. Please follow the direction of signage.
