Sylvan Road is both a residential street and a major road. It serves as a key cycling route connecting the Western Freeway Bikeway with the Bicentennial Bikeway. It is also part of the Queensland Government’s Principal Cycle Network. The popular route hosts over 1130 bike and e-mobility trips each weekday. This provides opportunity to improve safety for all road users.
The current road corridor is a mix of peak hour bike lanes and bike lanes between parked cars and vehicle traffic.
Council is committed to delivering a separated active transport connection along Sylvan Road. To do this, we’ll look at how the new path can be safely added to the existing road network. This includes reviewing:
- on-street parking
- local traffic movements
- access to homes and businesses.
To support this connection, we’re also reviewing nearby intersections at:
- Sylvan Road, Croydon Street and Jephson Street
- Milton Road, Croydon Street and Morley Street
- Milton Road and Sylvan Road.
These intersections are key for traffic flow and safety in the precinct. We’re investigating how to make them work better for all road users by reviewing turning arrangements and overall layout.
