Frequently asked questions and disclaimer
Streaming of Council meetings frequently asked questions
What is streaming?
Streaming is the broadcasting of near real-time video and audio to an audience over the internet.
When are Council meetings held?
They are held in the City Hall Council Chamber (public access via Level 2), 64 Adelaide Street, Brisbane. The meetings are held weekly on Tuesdays commencing at 1pm (except during recess periods).
Can the stream be viewed on a mobile device (e.g. laptop, mobile phone)?
Yes, if you have internet access on your device.
Can I pause or stop and re-start the stream?
No. The recordings of meetings after they have been uploaded to Council’s website can be stopped and re-started.
What does ‘Streaming paused for Meeting adjournment’ mean?
It means the meeting has paused and will resume shortly. Council meetings have adjournments for breaks such as afternoon tea, dinner or for another reason moved by a Councillor and approved by the Chamber, for example, to allow for legal advice to be sought.
How soon after a Council meeting will the video be available to watch?
The intention is to upload the recording at a similar timeframe to that of the Council Meeting Minutes, i.e. after the Minutes have been adopted by Council.
What do I need to view the videos?
You will need a device running a supported operating system, a supported web browser and speakers.
How much data will be used while streaming an archive video?
YouTube will scale the data based on your device and connection speed. Council recommends using Wi-Fi or a fixed line connection when viewing the broadcast.
Can I download the recording of a meeting to keep?
No, but the meetings will be available online.
How long will the recordings be available on Council’s website?
The recording will be available on Council’s website or Council meeting YouTube channel.
I can’t access the stream or archive recording. What should I do?
Council uses YouTube to stream meetings. If you are unable to access the stream when the meeting is occurring, refer to YouTube help.
If you are unable to access a recording from a previous meeting, contact Council’s Contact Centre on 07 3403 8888.
I can't view the stream but there is a “Video Unavailable. This video is restricted” message displayed.
This may be because 'Restricted mode' is enabled on your YouTube profile. To turn restricted mode off, follow the YouTube instructions.
