Set off on a mini‑adventure and discover some of Brisbane’s top themed playgrounds to visit on your next family day out.

Fantasy

Step into enchanted play with these 3 fantasy-inspired locations.

Go down the rabbit hole at Newstead Park’s Alice in Wonderland-themed play area. Pack snacks for a teddy bears' picnic with river views and indulge in the storybook setting as you write your own adventure. Walk along the playgrounds paths and enjoy your own retelling of the classic Alice in Wonderland story.

Dorrington Park in Ashgrove is a wonderfully charming, fenced park for fairy lovers. Let the kids roam and indulge in whimsy as they play in this shaded park. The shaded, forest-like setting creates the perfect backdrop for dreaming up myths, legends and fairytales. Fitted with slides, swings and various play shopfronts, the opportunity for imaginative world building and role-play is endless.

The Hidden World Playground in Fitzgibbon is not an ordinary playground. Based on a tower design, with bridges, slides, and lots of climbing, this park blends real and make-believe. It offers many imaginative play opportunities. Bring along a shovel and a bucket or a much-loved dump truck to make the most of this playground’s sand play area.

Inspired by its floral surroundings, the City Botanic Gardens playground offers plenty of shade. It also includes musical elements scattered throughout the playground. Take a stroll along the paths and enjoy the fresh air while you let your child explore the flowers.

Industrial

For older kids seeking a climbing challenge, there are plenty of parks to explore. Hercules Street Park in Hamilton has a bright yellow playground made from reused shipping containers. It has winding slides, many ropes, and water play for hot summer days.

Don’t let the concrete facade of this playground fool you. Around every corner in Frew Park is an adventure of discovery. Situated next to the Milton Tennis Centre, this parkour playground has ledges, jumping platforms, slides, and ropes. This park will get your child up and moving.

Centred around a large interactive fort, Bradbury Park in Kedron features slides, ropes and balancing beams. The playground also includes a scooter track and a nature play area for children who like to try a bit of everything.

For those children that love rope climbing Ken Fletcher Park in Tennyson will be your dream playground. Built on an old power station site, this park is wonderfully fun. The climbing nets, swings and padded play area makes this playground fun for all ages.

These unique playgrounds push the limits on explorative play, catering to climbing enthusiasts. Fit with large climbing structures made from ropes, nets, metal, or repurposed materials, these parks offer adventure.

Boats

Do you have a young one interested in all things boats and pirates? Set sail on an adventure at one of these many boat-centric parks.

Ahoy to your little pirates who can play with swashbuckling delight at one of Brisbane's many boat-shaped playgrounds.

Start your voyage at Simpsons Playground in Graceville and enjoy its shady riverside location. Or begin your adventure bayside, with the sounds of the beach lapping near at Nudgee Beach Playground. Both playgrounds are boat shaped, fitted with slides and swings and are ready for imaginative play.

Vic Lucas Park’s boat‑shaped playground, set beside the Brisbane River, lets little sailors enjoy river views from the lookout. The park is a great spot for imaginative role‑play and classic family fun. Bring some sausages for the barbecue and turn it into a family day out.

For high-energy children who love swings, zip lines, and climbing, come see the mini lighthouse at George Clayton Park. Located on the Wynnum Esplanade, the colourful boat-shaped playground is something to keep your children entertained.

Wanting more seaside fun? Just a short walk along the Wynnum Esplanade, you’ll find yourself another fun nautical adventure at Bayside Park. With a mini replica battleship and a climbing feature, your children will stay engaged for hours. Just steps from the sandy Manly shore, bring a bucket and shovel.

Fancy a park with a view? Located under the Story Bridge, Captain Burke Park has a nautical-themed playground. It includes an accessible swing and is a fun spot for a full family outing. From here, walk or catch a CityCat to the Pirate Ship Playground at Howard Smith Wharves, where sand meets the city.

If boat-watching is more your pace, settle into the shade at Mowbray Park in East Brisbane. This park also makes a great spot to launch a day of exploring Brisbane from the river with a CityCat stop nearby.

Fancy spotting a duck or two? Bald Hills Creek runs beside Harold Kielly Park in North Brisbane. It offers a calm spot to relax while your little one explores the playground.
