Waste Smart Kindy
The Waste Smart Kindy program is an initiative for early learning centres and services in Brisbane. The program encourages early learning centres or services to make changes to increase resource recovery and decrease the amount of waste being sent to landfill.
The Program provides early learning educators with a free professional development course and offers early learning centres or services the opportunity to become a recognised Waste Smart Kindy.
A Waste Smart Kindy is an early learning centre or service that has demonstrated a commitment to keeping Brisbane clean, green and sustainable by reducing the amount of their waste being sent to landfill and increasing resource recovery. Early learning centres or services that satisfy the eligibility and application requirements outlined in the terms and conditions will receive a Waste Smart Kindy award and a pack of early learning resources focussing on waste minimisation to the value of approximately $200 (including GST).
Professional development course for educators
Brisbane City Council is offering a free online professional development course to early learning educators and outside school hours care providers that work in the Brisbane local government area (LGA).
Educators can complete the online professional development course at their own pace. On completion of all four units in the course, early learning educators that work within the Brisbane LGA will be posted a Waste Smart Kindy toolkit to help implement waste smart practises at their centre or service.
Outside school care providers are not eligible to receive the Waste Smart Kindy toolkit.
