Planning for new and improved community facilities, as an integral component of the city's infrastructure development, is crucial as suburbs undergo redevelopment and change.

In 2019, Council undertook an assessment of recreation and social needs for Windsor and surrounding suburbs and considered the current capacity of existing local facilities to identify the current and future needs of the local community.

The study confirmed a need for a local community centre in Windsor, providing an inclusive facility for the entire community.

About the project

With its projected population growth, accessible location and the emerging need for a local community facility, Windsor Park in the suburb of Windsor is considered to be the ideal location for a new local community centre. Windsor Park is a valuable community space and home to a range of sporting, recreation and community activities.

Existing infrastructure in the vicinity includes Brisbane Institute of Art, Windsor Croquet Club and Windsor Bowls Club with associated greens, sporting fields and lighting, and a playground.

The proposed community centre has been designed for a diverse range of community activities and includes multi-purpose meeting rooms of various sizes, office space, a kitchen, storage, amenities and outdoor play area.

Community engagement

Council conducted community engagement between 23 November 2020 and 13 December 2020 with the distribution of the project newsletter to residents and businesses in the suburb of Windsor inviting residents to have their say about the draft concept plan online, by email or phone.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the draft concept plan. Feedback from this consultation phase will help inform the design of the new local community centre.

Next steps

Council is currently assessing the feedback received during the consultation with a view to progress the project to the detailed design phase in early 2021. Following this phase, Council will seek permits and approvals for the project.
