Home library service

Council has a free home library service. The service is available to Brisbane residents unable to visit a Council library due to frailty, disability or long-term illness.

Library staff assist with selection of reading material, including magazines, large print, audio books, DVDs and CDs based on the customer’s interests and preferences. These items are delivered once a month.

Brisbane residents who are unable to visit a library in person due to frailty, illness or disability and their full-time carers are eligible to receive Council’s Home Library Service. A medical practitioner must support eligibility for the service, however please note this requirement will be waived for any application received during the Coronavirus pandemic.

How to apply

An application form can be obtained from any Council library, the online library catalogue, eLibCat or mailed to the applicant. During the Coronavirus pandemic, please phone your local library to apply.

Once the application form is completed, it can be emailed or mailed to any Council library for assessment. All applicants will receive a letter confirming receipt of the application and whether they have been accepted as a member of the Home Library Service.

For more information about this service, contact your local library or phone Council.
