Carindale Library extension project

Brisbane City Council is pleased to advise work is currently underway to expand and improve the Carindale Library. This upgrade is part of our commitment to delivering new opportunities for you to connect with family and friends in the places that make our city great.

About the project

Carindale Library was upgraded in 2012 and these latest works will ensure the library continues to feature the facilities and services to meet the needs of the community now and into the future.

This extension will increase the existing library by 460 square metres. The extension will provide new facilities, including a flexible space for library programs, quiet rooms and increased lounge and study seating, as well as an adult makerspace to support digital literacy and lifelong learning.

Floor plan of library extension. Area 1 is event space. Area 2 is maker space. Area 3 is quiet rooms. Area 4 is study space. Area 5 is lounge area.

Impacts during construction

The majority of work will happen in the adjacent tenancy or outside of library hours to minimise impacts to our library patrons and staff. There will be some changes to access during construction, but largely the library will continue to operate as normal throughout the expansion.

Once construction commences, access to the library will be via the main entrance only.
