About the project

Council is giving the community more to see and do in a clean and green Brisbane by creating more opportunities for leisure and recreation in Keralgerie Park, Morningside.  As Brisbane continues to grow, it is important to ensure that our parks can continue to meet the recreational needs of residents.

The upgrades to Keralgerie Park include:

  • a toilet block featuring two unisex cubicles, one accessible cubicle, and baby changing facilities
  • an extension to the current pathway to create a full circular pathway around the open space
  • new car park lines, including a dedicated wheelchair parking bay
  • two fitness nodes featuring outdoor exercise equipment
  • new young trees that, when mature, will provide more shaded play and relaxation areas throughout the park.

Keralgerie Park will now be more accessible and feature a greater range of family-friendly recreation opportunities for the community to enjoy.

Construction began early October 2021 and part of the works, including the fitness nodes and car park extension, were complete by late December 2021. The new toilet block began construction in late March 2022 and is now complete. We thank you for your patience while the upgrade was completed.

Consultation

Community consultation was undertaken in late 2020.

Community feedback indicated support for features including a new toilet block and pathway for pedestrians and scooters and additional shade tree planting. In addition, there was strong support for new fitness equipment in the park. Council thanks the community for taking the time to provide feedback on this project.

Further upgrades to Keralgerie Park to include other features that received strong community support (including additional play equipment, picnic shelters with barbecues, and small dog off-leash areas) can be considered in the future as funding becomes available.
