About the project
The New Farm Park River Hub is part of Council’s River Access Network, which aims to encourage recreational and tourism activities on the river and to create new lifestyle and leisure opportunities.
The facility will provide a new way for tourists and residents to access New Farm Park, a popular recreational area, Brisbane Powerhouse and surrounding businesses.
The facility is able to accommodate a range of vessels and uses including:
- opportunities for tour boat operators to pick-up and drop-off passengers
- short-term use for recreational vessels
- short-term use for passive crafts such as kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddleboards
- designated area for potential future water taxi pick-up and drop-off.
Commercial operators booking system
A booking system is in place for the outer pontoon face for commercial operators, allowing a 30 minute drop-off and pick-up function.
To make a booking for a 30-minute mooring for commercial vessels or tour boat operators, complete and submit the New Farm Park River Hub docking request application.
Operations of the facility
The new facility will allow for passive craft to moor on the inner fingers of the pontoon for a period of up to two hours, unless otherwise signed by Council. Follow the signage at the pontoon.
Council will be monitoring the usage of the pontoon over the next 12 months. We welcome feedback on all operational aspects such as duration of stay, signage and usage. Where possible, Council will look to update the pontoon to meet the community's needs.
To provide feedback, complete the online form.
Council has erected signage onsite to ensure users are able to familiarise themselves with safe on-water conduct before using the facility.
Council encourages all users to familiarise themselves with the Brisbane River Code of Conduct and the Brisbane RiverShare pocket guide for information on how to safely use the river. The guides can be downloaded from the Queensland Government Maritime Safety Queensland website.
Fishing is currently allowed on the pontoon, however boating activities take priority. No cast nets or crab potting activities are permitted on the pontoon to ensure the safety of all users.
Council requests users of the river hub follow signage on the pontoon.
