Brisbane City Council’s extensive bikeway and pathway projects align with the Transport Plan for Brisbane – Strategic Directions to plan and deliver a network of accessible walking and cycling paths to encourage more active lifestyle choices. The network improves access to local destinations and the CBD and helps to minimise traffic congestion.

February 2022 severe weather event impacts

The following bikeways were damaged during the recent flood event:

  • Bicentennial bikeway
  • Centenary Highway bikeway
  • City Reach boardwalk
  • Kedron Brook bikeway.

For details on detours or closures on these bikeways, see temporary bikeway closures and detours.

Council continues to invest in major bikeway projects, such as the Indooroopilly Riverwalk and the current CityLink Cycleway trial in the city centre, as well as bikeway upgrades that are delivered as part of our road construction and upgrade program. Learn more about completed bikeway and pathway projects across Brisbane.

Council also maintains a comprehensive program of renewal activities to ensure our bikeways are kept in a safe and serviceable condition, ensuring our network continues to meet rider and pedestrian needs.
