About the project

Council is actively managing the climbing facilities at the top of the Kangaroo Point cliffs through monitoring and regular maintenance to ensure safe facilities are provided.

We have an ongoing program to inspect, maintain and replace the climbing bollards at the top of the Kangaroo Point cliffs to ensure we are providing safe climbing facilities for the community to enjoy our liveable city.

A total of eleven climbing bollards have been removed and replaced recently as part of this program. We are now planning to remove and replace seven more climbing bollards across the cliffs.

Construction

We will be replacing seven rock-climbing bollards with new stainless-steel bollards. This involves removing the old bollards, drilling the new bollards into rock and then filling them with grout.

The new bollards will remain fenced off for one week after installation to allow for curing time before being opened to the climbing community. The remaining bollards and cliff face will remain operational.

These works will be undertaken Monday to Friday, from 7am to 5pm from early November 2023 to late December 2023, weather and site conditions permitting.

Throughout the works, you can expect temporary footpath and carpark closures at the top of the cliffs where bollards are being replaced. This will be for short periods of time while initial drilling works are underway at nearby bollards.
