About the project

The Norris Road upgrades were undertaken in stages and are now complete, providing benefits to the local community.

The Norris Road upgrades were jointly funded by Council as part of the Better Roads for Brisbane program and the Australian Federal Government as part of the Urban Congestion Fund.

Stage 2 - Norris Road and Pritchard Place intersection upgrade

Works to upgrade the intersection of Norris Road and Pritchard Place commenced in early May 2022 and were complete in mid-October 2022.

The benefits of this intersection upgrade include:

  • improved traffic flow on Norris Road
  • improved travel time reliability on Pritchard Place
  • improved pedestrian and cyclist connectivity
  • enhanced public and active transport facilities
  • improved safety for all road users.

The intersection upgrade works included:

  • Installing traffic lights with controlled pedestrian crossing facilities on Norris Road and Pritchard Place.
  • Constructing a controlled right-turn pocket on Norris Road into Pritchard Place for southbound vehicles.
  • Constructing a new left-turn pocket on Norris Road into Pritchard Place for northbound vehicles.
  • Constructing a new dedicated right-turn pocket on Norris Road into Wirupa Street for northbound vehicles.
  • Installing an advanced traffic signal warning sign, approximately 230 metres south of the intersection.
  • Upgrading the eastern footpath to a 2.5m-wide shared path between Bracken Ridge TAFE and Wirupa Street.
  • Removing the pedestrian crossing near the Norris Road and Wirupa Street intersection.
  • Relocating the northbound bus stop, near Greenore Street, to a new indented bus stop on Norris Road, outside Norris Road State School.

Stage 2 - additional corridor improvements

Additional improvements along the Norris Road corridor were identified by Council and introduced as part of the Norris Road upgrades in early September 2022 and were complete late September 2022.

The benefits of these additional improvements include:

  • improved safety for those entering Gawain Road from Norris Road in a northbound direction
  • enhanced traffic flow and travel time reliability on Norris Road
  • improved safety for people walking and riding in the local area.

These additional improvements involved:

  • installing a dedicated right-turn pocket for northbound vehicles travelling on Norris Road and turning into Gawain Road
  • installing yellow no stopping lines intermittently on Norris Road, between the Bracken Ridge TAFE and the Bracken Ridge Baptist Church
  • upgrading the kerb on the south-eastern corner of Norris and Gawain Roads, including the installation of a new kerb ramp and minor landscaping.

Norris Road Upgrade Stage 1

These important works involved replacing the roundabout at the Norris Road and Barbour Road intersection with traffic lights and controlled pedestrian crossing facilities. A new 2.5-metre-wide shared path along the eastern verge of Norris Road, between the Bracken Ridge Plaza and Bracken Ridge TAFE was also constructed.

The benefits of these upgrade works include:

  • enhanced safety for all road users, pedestrians and cyclists
  • improved pedestrian safety, connectivity and accessibility to public and active transport options and local parkland areas
  • improved travel time reliability and reduced queue lengths along Norris Road and Barbour Road for general traffic and buses.

Works for this project commenced in March 2021 and works were successfully complete early December 2021.
