About the project

We are investigating a potential upgrade at the intersection of Esher Street and Toohey Road to improve safety, enhance visibility and overall performance of the intersection for people walking, riding and driving.

The potential features to be included as part of this project are as follows:

  • install traffic signals with signalised pedestrian crossing facilities at the intersection
  • widen the northern approach to the intersection, to allow for a left-turn pocket for vehicles turning into Esher Street
  • construct a right-turn pocket on Toohey Road to allow for vehicles turning into Esher Street
  • construct new wide pathways on both corners of Esher Street and Toohey Road connecting to the existing shared pathway adjacent to the Wellers Hill Bowls Club
  • install yellow no stopping lines on all approaches to the intersection to improve traffic efficiency and increase sightlines for motorists.

This potential project currently has budget allocation for design only in the 2023-24 financial year. Construction is subject to future budget allocation and city-wide priorities.

Benefits

The potential improvements for this intersection aim to provide the following benefits:

  • improved safety for all road users by installing traffic lights with signalised pedestrian crossing facilities to control all movements at the intersection
  • enhanced overall performance of the intersection by widening the road and formalising left and right-turn pockets
  • increased connectivity for people walking and riding by constructing new wide pathways.
