Apply for permits for temporary road closures, off-road bikeway closures and construction works zones.

Council works with businesses, communities, and authorities to manage temporary road closures, ensuring safety and reducing congestion.

About the permit system

On 1 July 2025, Council introduced the Road Corridor Permit System (RCPS) to simplify applications and approvals. RCPS covers temporary road closures, off-road bikeway closures, and construction works zones. This aligns with our commitment to improving road safety for all travellers.

Key benefits include:

  • easier applications for temporary road closures, construction works zones, and off-road bikeway closures
  • user-friendly online system reducing data re-entry and administrative burden
  • improved visibility of planned closures through map-based tools
  • open data access for better coordination across road networks.

New permit system transition schedule

Transitioning approved closures to the new system varies by closure type.

Temporary road closure and off-road bike closures

Approved existing road closure certificates and bikeway permits remain unchanged.

  • Current approvals remain valid until they expire.
  • The old system will process unapproved applications submitted prior to 1 July 2025.
  • From 1 July 2025, all new and renewal applications must use RCPS.

Construction works zones

  • If your works zone permit expires on or before 31 August 2025, you need not take any action.
  • If it expires after 31 August 2025, our team will contact you about transitioning to RCPS.
  • Applicants must resubmit pending (submitted but not approved) applications as of 1 July 2025 in RCPS, and Council will carry over any assessment work conducted
  • All new works zone applications must use RCPS from 1 July 2025.

Accessing the road corridor permit system

All users must create a system individual profile with contact details for direct communication during the assessment and approval process.

You can link your individual profile to an organisation profile if applicable, such as when working for a traffic control company. An organisation can link multiple individual profiles.

When first using RCPS, the primary contact should create their profile first, followed by the organisation and other individual profiles. If the primary contact changes, Council can assist with updates.

Applicants are financially responsible for the application fee and any ongoing costs.
