Smart poles, smart city

Carefully planning for Brisbane’s digital future means protecting the lifestyle we all love, while enhancing our city with innovative infrastructure. Council is moving towards this future with the acquisition of 20 smart poles.

The Brisbane Smart Poles project involves housing a range of sensors and devices on smart poles to collect data, transferring that data via a high bandwidth network to be analysed and to produce useful information that will help Council improve the operation and efficiency of the city.

The smart infrastructure will put Brisbane on the same stage as other international cities, including Paris and Los Angeles, which have already started adopting the cutting-edge technology.

Twenty potential sites have been identified for the poles to be installed, with a focus on civic and open spaces, streets and pathways, as well as skate parks. Smart poles are just one way Council is preparing our city for a high-tech future.
