Since 2023, we've installed new shade sails in over 150 playgrounds. This helps kids enjoy these spaces longer every day, all year round. Works like these ensure Brisbane remains the best place to live, work and relax.
Here is our list of Brisbane's best sun-safe playgrounds. Use it to plan your next fun day out with the kids.
Moora Park, Shorncliffe
Located only a short walk away from Shorncliffe Station, Moora Park has great views across Moreton Bay to Redcliffe.
The park has a well-shaded playground with shade sails and trees covering the area, allowing for hours of fun. You'll find multiple forts, bridges, slides and wooden carvings of animals in the sand to spark imagination.
The playground is near the beach, which makes it a great place for a picnic and a swim. Don’t forget to enjoy a family walk on Shorncliffe Pier to round out your day.
Fernwood Place Park, Taigum
A unique space-themed playground featuring a rocket ship, moon rover, spinner and swings can be found at Fernwood Place Park. With shade sails installed over the playground, kids can spend hours exploring the out-of-this-world playground all year-round.
Bring a picnic or visit the nearby Taigum Square for a choice of food options.
Mowbray Park, East Brisbane
Mowbray Park is a popular inner city park with shady open spaces and views of the Brisbane River and New Farm.
The park’s boat-themed playground reflects the area’s unique history and includes 2 boats with ladders, bridges and slides. Kids can use the wheel to imagine steering the boat into port.
The park is easy to get to from the nearby Mowbray Park Ferry Terminal.

Sherwood Arboretum, Sherwood
With more than 1,350 trees and covering 15 hectares, Sherwood Arboretum is a perfect spot for a day out with the family.
Kids can explore 2 playgrounds including a nature play area that's perfect for younger children.
The arboretum turns 100 in 2025, so there is no better time to explore and discover this special place.
