Whether you're with kids (and/or your pooch) or meeting friends, there are plenty of cafes in Ashgrove and neighbouring suburb, Bardon, for breakfast, brunch or lunch.

Goodfolk Cafe on Rainworth Road in Bardon charms you with its relaxed vibe and cottage-styled side garden and rear courtyard. Child and dog-friendly, it's a lovely spot to chill and enjoy food prepared using locally sourced and garden-grown ingredients.

For a side of gift-shopping with your latte, visit Corn Street on Waterworks Road, Ashgrove. You'll find one-of-a-kind ceramics, plant pots, cushions and more on display, as well as a menu boasting fish tacos, Turkish-style fare and even 'puppucinos' for four-legged guests.

Saturday mornings see a queue at Bannerton Bakery Cafe just off Waterworks Road. Everyone says, "oui si vous plait!" to freshly-baked, French pastries and breads. For mod-Oz cuisine and specialty coffee, check out Famished on Frasers, conveniently located up the street from The Enchanted Forest (Dorrington Park).

Park life

There are more than 60 parks across Ashgrove and Bardon, offering facilities for hockey, cricket and basketball, as well as playgrounds, dog off-leash areas, outdoor gyms and access to bikeways.

The Enchanted Forest playground in Dorrington Park, Ashgrove is a delightful hidden gem. Parking and entry is via an unnamed pathway off Frasers Road. It's a go-to for play dates, birthdays and catch-ups. The large leopard trees provide year-round shade to the playground, which features swings, slides, climbing forts and more within reach of picnic tables and toilets.

In Bardon, Bowman Park on Simpsons Road offers a sports oval for ball games, two playgrounds (one includes a flying fox) and a dirt BMX track. Ithaca Creek Bikeway wraps around the eastern side of the park, while trails on the north side link to tracks on the foothills of Mt Coot-tha Forest.
