About the project
This project is part of Council’s commitment to creating more to see and do in a city that is clean and green, so residents and visitors can enjoy Brisbane’s beautiful climate while connecting with the people and places that make our city great.
The Pomax Track, Toohey Forest escarpment track and Tinchi Tamba Wetlands Island Circuit Track upgrades are fully funded by the Australian Government.
Works will include remediation and resurfacing works to improve safety for walkers at each track.
Further works to the tracks will include:
- installing concrete and natural stone steps with handrails at the Toohey Forest escarpment track
- installing copper log handrails along the steps within the Pomax Track
- removing wooden slats and edging within the existing Tinchi Tamba Wetlands Island Circuit Track.
Works are anticipated to start at Karawatha Discovery Centre track late February 2021, Tinchi Tamba Wetlands Island Circuit track early March 2021, Pomax Track mid-March 2021 and Toohey Forest escarpment track early April 2021.
All track upgrades are expected to be completed by mid-2021, weather and site conditions permitting.
Construction will take place between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday works where required.
During construction, reserve users in close proximity to the works can expect low level construction noise, minor dust and increased vehicle movements within the reserve. For the safety of workers and visitors, work areas will be fenced off for the duration of the works.
A small secure laydown area near the site may be required for the contractor to store necessary materials and equipment.
The walking tracks will be closed during the works, however, alternate tracks in the area will remain open. A detailed list of walking and mountain bike tracks and trails can be found by searching Council’s website.
Signage will be installed before the works begin to provide advance notification of the track closures.
The toilet block located along the Karawatha Discovery Centre walking track will also be temporarily closed during the works. Amenities nearby in the Karawatha Discovery Centre will be available for use.
