Application to carry out works on protected vegetation
Apply for a permit to work on protected vegetation on private property, or carry out minor pruning to a street tree on the footpath.
When to request a protected vegetation permit
You can apply for a permit to carry out:
- minor pruning to a street tree on the footpath
- work to protect vegetation on a private property (including a long-term permit).
You must provide your contact details, such as your name, phone number, email address and postal address. This can be for an individual and a business.
If you are requesting the permit to work on a tree that is owned by someone else, you need to get their approval. Provide their name and address.
Provide the location of the property where the vegetation is, or that the street tree is at the front of, including street number, name and suburb.
You can also use an interactive map to enter a pin location.
You must provide details about the street tree pruning or other protected vegetation works, such as the:
- type of vegetation (trees, shrubs, ground covers or vines)
- number of street trees to be pruned or a description of the vegetation
- height and thickness of the street tree’s branches
- location of the street tree in relation to your property and the footpath/road
- reason for proposed works and how you will carry them out.
You may also be asked to:
- report tree maintenance for street or park trees higher than 2.5 metres or with branches thicker than 25 millimetres
- provide any details of previous applications to carry out work on the vegetation, or any current development applications for the property.
You may be required to add attachments to your request, such as:
- photos of the vegetation
- a site plan sketch
- Protected Vegetation Management Plan (PVMP) for a long-term permit
- arborist report
- Forestry Management Plan
- Fire Management Plan.
