What is an unmanaged vehicle?

Council can only investigate vehicles that meet the unmanaged vehicle criteria.

An unmanaged vehicle is any vehicle left on a road or road-related area, such as a footpath, dividing strip or bike path, and is considered unmanaged if it’s:

  • left in a hazardous location
  • unsightly, dilapidated or dangerous to the public (e.g. wheels are missing or the vehicle has been vandalised)
  • not registered
  • abandoned.

Types of unmanaged vehicles you can report

  • cars
  • trucks
  • trailers
  • caravans
  • motorbikes.

Note:

  • We consider a vehicle to be unregistered if it does not hold a current registration in Queensland or any other state or territory. 
  • Any unsightly or dilapidated vehicles must be assessed by an authorised person. These do not generally include vehicles that have minor damage, reasonable wear and tear, slightly dirty, etc.

1 Issue details

Provide issue details such as:

  • the type of issue
  • public safety concerns
  • why you believe it is unmanaged.
2 Vehicle details

You may choose to provide:

  • vehicle colour, make, model
  • vehicle registration status
  • registration plates and Vehicle Identification Number
  • photos of the vehicle. 
3 Location details

Provide location details such as street, suburb and postcode. 

If known, include how long the vehicle has been left at the location and the owner's information.

4 Contact details (optional)

Provide contact details such as a name, phone number and email.

To report an unmanaged vehicle to Council:

A car is considered abandoned if it’s left for more than 24 hours or 7 days, depending on where it’s parked.
