Roller door murals

Connectedness’ is a series of 11 roller door murals, located along Railway Parade, exploring the theme of a global and inclusive community. The playful and colourful expression of graphics and words which form part of the roller door murals were inspired by the Darra residents’ response to the question: ‘What do you see in common with nature and community?’.

Man and Wah Cheung were the commissioning artists for the lightbox and roller door placemaking artwork.

Lightbox display

The Darra lightbox, located on Lee Lane, is solar powered and responds to its immediate environment and the changing solar patterns of the different seasons. The lightbox relies on regular solar input for consistent operation. In this way, the lightbox may not function everyday if solar energy levels have been low.

The artwork displayed in the lightbox is interchangeable.

The original artwork, installed in October 2020, displays images that were photographed during a Darra community placemaking workshop hosted in Que Huong Restaurant, in March 2020. Residents of Darra were invited to share natural objects that represented a personal memory, meaning and told their story of Darra as home.
