Headfort Street Park project

Council is creating more to see and do in our suburbs with a new community park in Headfort Street, Greenslopes.

This new park will provide a much-needed green space for the local community and visitors, and will include shady spots to take a break, open green spaces for picnics, play, and community events and heritage elements from the previous use of the site.

The project is part of Council's commitment to enhance and maintain more than 2180 parks across Brisbane.

About the project

Council is purchasing land from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and will engage with the local community and key stakeholders to help inform the development of a plan for the new community park.

As part of this purchase, a portion of the land will be occupied by Legacy Brisbane who are proposing to build their new Headquarters on part of the site. The new Brisbane Legacy House will be subject to relevant approvals and is not part of Council’s proposed park project and our community engagement. Headfort Street Park is expected to be delivered after the proposed Brisbane Legacy House construction is completed.

Project planning

In these early stages of planning, Council is proposing the following features and ideas for the new Headfort Street Park including:

  • shade trees and shade structures
  • seating and picnic areas
  • pedestrian pathways
  • open green space that will allow flexible uses such as informal play and recreation
  • historical features from the previous Red Cross buildings.
