Victoria Park / Barrambin is an impressive parkland with rolling green hills and expansive city views.

In 2021, Council converted the 18-hole Victoria Park Golf Course into the public park that it is today. This was part of the Victoria Park Vision and Victoria Park / Barrambin Master Plan to create more opportunities to enjoy our beautiful climate and connect with family, friends and visitors.

A vision for Victoria Park / Barrambin

Following the Queensland Government’s announcement regarding Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games infrastructure, Victoria Park / Barrambin is set to become Queensland’s centre stage, with a new world-class stadium and aquatic centre built in the park.

Getting there

Commercial facilities, such as the driving range and bistro, have their own operating hours.

Travel options

Free onsite parking is available at the main entry off Herston Road. 

Metered street parking is available on Herston Road, Gilchrist Avenue and Gregory Terrace. Check street signs for parking conditions.

Access the park via:

  • the main entry off Herston Road, Herston
  • Gilchrist Avenue, Herston
  • Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill.

Use the pathways from the north side of the city, as shown in the map.

Victoria Park / Barrambin is well-serviced by Brisbane Metro and buses via the Inner Northern Busway. Nearest stops are Herston and QUT Kelvin Grove.

Things to see and do

While away the hours exploring the parkland or find family-friendly activities and opportunities for outdoor adventures.

Beginner and intermediate riders can use the urban pump track to practice and expand on their riding skills.

The area includes a multi-use space with skateable elements, along with picnic shelter and seating, amenities block, drinking fountains, bike racks, 16-space car park and a fully accessible pathway connecting to the rest of the park.

The pump track is located at the north-west corner of the park.

Take a moment to reflect and relax with our ‘Go Slow for a Mo’ interactive wellness trails.

They encourage you to slow down and connect with your natural surroundings. You can experience 4 rejuvenation zones:

  • Nature Wellness Rejuvenation Zone, located in the grove of gum trees next to the Herston busway station.
  • Transformative Trees Rejuvenation Zone, located in the centre of the park.
  • Country Connection Rejuvenation Zone, located at York’s Hollow waterhole at the end of Gilchrist Avenue.
  • Awe and Appreciation Rejuvenation Zone, located near the top of the driving range, overlooking the city skyline.

Victoria Park / Barrambin is packed with picnic spots.

Need some ideas? 

  • Choose a shady spot on the sprawling hills with a view of the parkland. 
  • Snag a picnic table with a barbecue and sweeping city views.
  • Unwind by a waterhole along York’s Hollow, located at the end of Gilchrist Avenue.
  • Grab supplies at Kelvin Grove Urban Village and take advantage of the new park furniture and barbecues.
  • Take in the sunset from the Spring Hill side of the park, with access and parking along Gregory Terrace.

Victoria Park / Barrambin has more than 10 kilometres of paths and tracks to walk with your furry friend.

You can also let them off the leash at the dog park behind Centenary Pool, on the Spring Hill side of the park.

You can enquire about events online.

You'll need to provide:

  • personal information, including your contact details
  • public liability insurance with coverage for $20 million and WorkCover certificate of currency
  • event information, including the number of attendees and infrastructure being brought into the parklands.

Visitors are welcome to use the green spaces within the parkland, provided your group complies with the conditions of entry.

If you are unsure if your plans meet these normal conditions of entry, submit an event enquiry and a member of the team will contact you to discuss further.

Conditions of entry

For the safety of all visitors, local residents and the parklands, you must follow these conditions when visiting Victoria Park / Barrambin.

City Parklands Services implements and enforces these rules.

When visiting the parklands:

  • always supervise your children
  • comply with signage, security and parkland management
  • be considerate of other park visitors (don’t be drunk, disorderly or create a nuisance)
  • don't make noise before 7am or after 8pm from Monday to Saturday, and before 8am or after 8pm on Sundays.

Pets in the parkland

You must keep your dog or cat on a leash and under control at all times while in the parkland.

Control noise from your pet (within reason) and always clean up and dispose of the waste responsibly.

You can carry out these activities at the park with permission:

  • busking
  • flying drones
  • conducting surveys
  • selling or promoting goods
  • holding a peaceful assembly or protest
  • filming or taking still photographs for commercial purposes
  • accessing the parkland for filming or event purposes
  • holding events and activations, including regular activities by groups of individuals
  • bringing a non-domestic animal into the park, e.g. animals for a petting zoo.

To apply for permission or enquire about your activity, email City Parklands.

When visiting the parklands, you can’t:

  • feed the wildlife
  • use metal detectors
  • litter or damage property
  • camp or sleep overnight
  • peg or stake into lawn areas
  • fish or swim in lakes and dams
  • attach items to infrastructure or trees
  • dispose of ice or hot water on lawns or gardens
  • hand out leaflets, solicit hawking or spruik
  • drink alcohol or smoke outside of designated areas
  • carry out religious or political activities without permission
  • organise sporting activities or ball games without permission
  • use an open flame, candle, portable cooking device or gas stove
  • use portable structures, such as tents and marquees, without permission.

We may report the incident and ask you to leave the parkland if you carry out any of these activities.

Completed projects

The Victoria Park / Barrambin Master Plan was a long-term strategy for the park’s future. It outlined how the park would evolve into a natural retreat for adventure, discovery and connection with nature.

As part of the master plan, new facilities were added to create more to see and do at the iconic parkland.

The plan built upon the Victoria Park Vision, which documented the park’s potential to grow, evolve and improve over time.

This new 260-metre pump track was completed in November 2024. It features a beginner and intermediate track, and multi-use space with skateable features to build skills and confidence. The area also includes a picnic spot, an amenities block and a small car park.

Relax on the Spring Hill side of Victoria Park / Barrambin in this new parkland area, completed in July 2024. The common was designed to offer a flat lawn area with space for outdoor sports, community gatherings, events and picnics.

You can now access Victoria Park / Barrambin directly from platform 1 of the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Kelvin Grove station.

Enjoy benches, picnic tables, barbecues, drinking fountains, bike racks and shelters. They’re in shady spots and at lookout points so you can stay cool and appreciate the views.

Get to the park along the Inner Northern Busway using the entrance from the Herston station platform.

Victoria Park / Barrambin has many child-friendly activities, events and facilities, including the pump track on the north-west corner of the park in Herston and children’s playground on the Spring Hill side.

Yes, dogs are allowed in Victoria Park / Barrambin. 

The parkland has more than 10 kilometres of paths and tracks to walk with your leashed dog.

You can also let your dog run free at the off-leash area on the Spring Hill side of the park.

Visit the pump track, ideal for beginner and intermediate riders, on the north-west corner of the park, off Herston Road, for a dedicated facility for scooters, bicycles, skateboards and other non-motorised wheeled craft.

You can only ride your skateboard or scooter on the internal pathways in the park. You must give way to pedestrians.

You can’t skateboard or ride your scooter on any park furniture, including steps, benches and walls.

In 2008, the name of the park was changed to Victoria Park / Barrambin, following engagement with the local Turrbal people. Barrambin (meaning ‘windy place’) comprised the areas now known as Herston and Bowen Hills. 

Barrambin were meeting and gathering places for groups travelling to and from other parts of South East Queensland. They were also dance and corroboree sites, and hunting and fishing lands for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The Victoria Park golf course closed in 2021, before the greenspace opened as public parkland. The driving range, putt putt area, function centre and bistro remain open.

Yes, part of Victoria Park / Barrambin was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 3 December 2007. 

It’s also listed as a Local Heritage Place under Brisbane City Plan 2014.
