Over the next three years, we’re making Brisbane City Council’s playgrounds sun-safe, with work underway to install shade sails at playgrounds across Brisbane.
Council’s new Sun-safe suburban playgrounds program will see over 50 shade sails installed, and trees planted at parks across Brisbane within the next 12 months.
The new initiative and investment will help keep playground equipment cool while making our parks safer for kids to play, learn and grow.
The accelerated program will also see an increase in trees planted to create a cleaner, greener Brisbane while providing a great source of shade.
We know parks and playgrounds are loved and valued, which is why we've dedicated more than $580.2 million to clean and green initiatives in this year's Budget. This includes $106 million for new parks and enhancements, including scooter tracks and ninja courses.
Playgrounds to get sunshade
The first installations of shade sails under the Sun-safe suburban playgrounds program will kick off at playgrounds in Morningside, Wakerley, Balmoral, Kenmore and Bellbowrie.
Find out more about the program including which playgrounds are set to receive sunshade over the next 12 months and expected construction impacts.
