Lagoon rehabilitation project - City Botanic Gardens, Brisbane City
Council is planning to rehabilitate Oakman’s Lagoon in the City Botanic Gardens, near the Alice Street entrance.
Oakman's Lagoon in the City Botanic Gardens near the Alice Street entrance is being rehabilitated.
Works include:
- emptying the pond by gradually pumping out and recycling water over the park, vegetation and lawns
- desilting the lagoon
- inspecting and repairing cracks
- trimming invasive tree roots
- installing a new sand bed and pond liners
- repairing and reinstalling the aeration and fountain system
- refilling the lagoon with water.
During construction, a fauna spotter and catcher is present to spot, catch and relocate aquatic life.
Construction started in late April 2025 and is anticipated to be complete in late July 2025, weather and site conditions permitting.
Works are being undertaken 7am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. In the event of wet weather, works will occur on the next available working day(s) until works are complete.
If you visit, live in or are travelling through the area, you may notice an increase in odour, noise, dust and truck movements.
Traffic control will be on site to assist people moving through the area with detour signage in place.
The garden gates will remain open with an exclusion zone near the lagoon and on Alice Street.
We will make every effort to minimise disruption to park users and the wider community during these works.
