How can I order an additional green bin for a house?

You can order a second green bin for a house (single-unit dwelling) by:

Owners of multi-unit dwellings may be eligible for the green waste recycling service. This is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

If a unit is owner-occupied, the owner can request a green bin. We'll contact the owner to confirm where the bin will be placed and who will present the bin for collection.

If the property has a building manager or body corporate, they must provide approval before the unit owner contacts Council.

For houses (single-unit dwellings), you can:

  • exchange your existing 240-litre yellow bin for a larger 340-litre bin
  • order an additional 340-litre yellow bin and keep your existing 240-litre bin.

Make sure you have space to store your larger or additional bin. You'll also need enough space to place your bins on the kerbside for collection.

You can order a larger 340-litre yellow bin and keep your existing 240-litre bin for a house for an additional yearly charge by:

Multi-unit dwellings are eligible for larger yellow bins or bulk yellow bins.

Approval is subject to a Council site inspection based on:

  • availability of storage
  • kerb presentation space
  • accessibility for service vehicles, if required.

Body corporates must approve and order larger bins for unit complexes on behalf of owners or tenants. Body corporates can order larger yellow bins online.

What happens after you order a yellow bin

We’ll let you know about delivery arrangements once we’ve processed your order.

If you ordered a larger yellow bin

  • Leave your existing 240-litre bin on the kerbside. It will be swapped with your new larger bin.
  • Let household members and neighbours know about the replacement and that your existing bin will remain on the kerbside until replaced.
  • You can continue using your existing bin until the larger bin arrives, but don't fill it beyond 50% capacity.
  • Bin contents will be transferred to the new bin on delivery. Your bin will be emptied on your next standard collection day.

If you ordered an additional yellow bin

  • Your additional bin will be delivered to your property.
  • You can use the bin as soon as it is delivered.

Order bins for a newly built house

If you have recently finished building your new residential property, you can order new bins, including a larger bin.

Conditions for ordering a new bin

You must be the owner of the property to order new bins. You can only order your bins if you have:

  • recently finished building the house
  • the rate account number for the new house
  • people living in the house
  • the house number clearly displayed.

What happens after you order bins for a newly built house

After you place your order, Council will charge your rate account for the waste collection service.

Your bins will be delivered to the footpath within 3 working days. They must be moved inside the property boundary as soon as possible after delivery has been completed.
