About the project
Early works in the Vicki Wilson Playground area in Rawlinson Street, Murarrie include installing:
- new and improved playground equipment
- a new adult seating area
- improved lighting and shade, and
- a car park area upgrade including provision for accessible car parking spaces.
Some of the existing infrastructure being replaced in the park will be relocated to other Council parks.
Council undertakes sport and recreation precinct plans, in consultation with Council’s community facility tenants and community users, to ensure the optimal use of valuable community facilities and to inform the future investment, development and management of these sites.
Council sought community feedback on a preliminary draft precinct plan for the Murarrie Recreation Reserve including the area in and around the Vicki Wilson playground in mid-2019. This feedback was incorporated in the preliminary draft precinct plan [link to final concept plan Word document above]
Council thanks the community for providing feedback on these plans.
Construction works will generally take place Monday to Friday from 6.30am to 6.30pm. Where Saturday works are required, works will take place between 8am and 1pm. Works started in mid-May and are expected to be completed in late 2020, weather and site conditions permitting.
Properties close to these works may experience some construction noise, dust, vibration and increased truck movements. Due to workplace health and safety requirements, reversing beepers cannot be switched off.
During construction, the Vicki Wilson Playground will be closed, and car park access will be temporarily unavailable. Please seek alternative parking. The nearest playgrounds are a small one on the opposite side of the Reserve and the Central Park playground at 11 Calliope Circuit, Murarrie.
Council will ensure pedestrian access to the park is maintained. Where required, Council will ensure appropriate signage and traffic control measures are in place to safely direct park users around the works area.
Council will also need to remove three trees which were found by an independent arborist to be in poor condition.
All work will be carried out in accordance with the relevant environmental guidelines. A fauna spotter and catcher will be on-site to relocate any fauna prior to tree removals. Vegetation impacts will be offset in accordance with Council policies and relevant legislative requirements and re-planting will occur as part of the project.
Council is committed to keeping the community informed of construction in the area and will provide advance notification for any major impacts, out-of-hours activities, and if any further tree removals are required.
Council would like to thank you for your patience while we upgrade your park. We apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause and will make every effort to keep this to a minimum.
