About the project
We are undertaking survey and investigation works to confirm ground conditions and identify existing underground services to inform a design to upgrade the stormwater drainage on Albert Street between Charlotte and Margaret Streets, as well as potential upgrades on Margaret Street in the future.
The drainage network on this section of Albert Street was constructed in the 1880s and was designed to the drainage standards of the day.
This upgrade is part of our commitment to protect and improve our existing infrastructure to ensure it remains functional into the future. Upgrading this drainage will extend the capacity and life of the existing stormwater network and help manage rainfall and overland flow in this low-lying area of the CBD catchment.
Timing
Survey and investigation works are being completed in sections and have been occurring intermittently since early April 2022.
Works will be continuing from 25 September 2022 for approximately two weeks, weather and site conditions permitting.
These investigations are being undertaken at night between 7pm and 5am, Sunday to Thursday to minimise impacts for road users.
Impacts during investigation
Works will also involve saw cutting small sections of road and vacuum excavating to confirm ground conditions and physically locate existing underground services (e.g., water supply, sewer, gas, NBN).
Surveyors will be on site using handheld equipment to locate underground services using radar.
We will progressively reinstate the road surface using compaction equipment once investigation works are completed.
During investigations, you can expect:
- noise, dust and increased vehicle movements, with reversing beepers and flashing lights in the area
- minor traffic delays, with possible lane closures that may impact on-street parking.
Traffic controllers will be onsite to direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Footpaths will remain accessible at all times.
Council values your patience and cooperation while these works are undertaken.
